GEIS is divided into four Mini-Schools with an Assistant Principal responsible for each team. The nature of these Mini-Schools promotes a school within a school ideology. This fosters a culture of belonging and pride for our students and staff. Our Mini-Schools are named after local West Coast beaches that acknowledge the uniqueness of our local community.
At GEIS our classrooms are either a single teacher learning environment or a collaborative learning environment. Teaching pedagogy and digital technology use to support learning is the same irrespective of the physical environment. Classroom teachers are responsible for providing learning programmes for the core subjects of reading, writing and maths along with student social science inquiry, science, health, physical education and Te Re Maori.
GEIS also provides a comprehensive specialist programme for all students based around the arts and technology learning areas. These subjects are: Sound Arts(Music), Dramatic Arts, Visual Art, Video Production, Design Technology, Food Technology, Hard Materials and Enviro Technology.
