Performing Arts Programmes 2026
Immerse yourself in a world of creativity and expression through our diverse and vibrant Performing Arts programmes.
Our school is a hub of artistic excellence, offering students a wide range of opportunities to discover their passions and shine on stage. From the high-energy teamwork of Show Quest and our biennial School Production to the soaring harmonies of the Choir, there is a place for every performer here. Students can also dive into contemporary music through our Rock and Pop Bands, join our premier Band Programme for woodwind and brass, or express themselves through the movement and discipline of Dance. Whether your child is a seasoned performer or picking up an instrument for the first time, our programmes foster a supportive community where talent is nurtured and every voice is heard.
We are thrilled to announce that our school will be taking the stage for our first-ever Showquest performance! Showquest is New Zealand’s premier creative performing arts event, challenging students to weave together dance, drama, and music with original digital visuals and lighting design. Beyond the glitz of the stage, this is a powerful opportunity for our students to build leadership, confidence, and collaboration. By participating, we aren’t just putting on a show; we are fostering a space where our akonga can express their unique voices, take creative risks, and experience the magic of professional-scale production. We can’t wait to show the community what we’ve been creating!

The GEIS Choir is back and louder than ever! Our choir is a vibrant community where students come together to explore a diverse range of musical styles. Singing is about more than just hitting the right notes; it’s a space for students to develop discipline, listening skills, and a deep sense of belonging. Whether you are a seasoned soloist or someone who just loves to sing in the shower, the choir offers a supportive environment to grow in musicality and perform at a high level. Join us as we harmonise, have fun, and represent GEIS with pride at upcoming festivals and community events!

Our Rock and Pop Band programme is designed for students who want to take their playing to the stage. Whether you are a guitarist, drummer, bassist, keyboardist, or vocalist, our bands provide a collaborative environment where you can develop your performance skills, songwriting, and stage presence. Students work with our Sound Arts Specialist to learn their favourite covers or create original music, culminating in high-energy school concerts, community events, and regional competitions. It’s more than just a lesson—it’s about finding your voice, building confidence, and experiencing the incredible energy of making music in a team

The Band Programme is our flagship instrumental initiative, offering students a strong foundation in Woodwind and Brass performance. By focusing on small-group tuition and collective ensemble playing, we ensure every student receives the dedicated support they need to succeed. From the first note on the trumpet to the rich harmonies of the saxophone and flute, our students learn the discipline of practice and the joy of orchestral performance. This programme is heavily subsidised to ensure that high-quality music education is accessible to all, creating a vibrant musical community that represents our school with pride at festivals and gala events.

The GEIS dance troupes continue in 2026 with lyrical/contemporary and hip hop teams. These teams prepare for Dance NZ Made competitions, as well as the Hip Hop going to AIMS games. In 2026, we hope to bring another dance opportunity for the contemporary group – watch this space.
These groups rehearse once a week with our talented dance tutor, Brandon Lewis, who is a multi-talented dancer who has competed on the national stage. Brandon has excellent rapport with the students and the troupes have a blast together!
