Sister School Relationships - Thailand, South Korea, Japan & China

Chulalongkorn University Demonstration School (Satit Chula) In 2012, we signed a Sister School Agreement with the Chulalongkorn University Demonstration Elementary School in Bangkok, Thailand. Each year, we welcome students from Bangkok and provide them with an emersion experience at our school. Staying with GEIS families, our Thai guests get to experience "Kiwi" life first hand.

"We consider ourselves blessed since our kids’ hosts in this program have been wonderful. We have kept close contact with the Suttons and the Christies who kindly took care of Herckie, our son who joined the first Sister Schools Program. Our experiences have been marvelous and I do hope that you will continue this fruitful collaboration. We will of course keep our Fordyce friends on our list of lovely kiwis. "

The teachers who accompany the Thai Exchange Programme are also afforded opportunities to engage with our teachers and observe first hand the richness of the New Zealand Curriculum.

Every alternate year our GEIS students get to visit Bangkok and reciprocate the exchange, giving them an opportunity to learn about Thai culture and experience wonderful Thai hospitality.

South Korea: We have a number of Sister Schools in South Korea. GEIS students have visited these schools as well as having International Students attend our school.

Japan: Sawara Junior High, Fukuoka We are fortunate to have had a long standing relationship with this school. Every two years we take a group of students who travel from Auckland to Osaka and then make their way to Fukuoka. The students spend 8-9 days exploring cities such as Osaka, Hiroshima, and Fukuoka as well as a cultural exchange with Sawara Junior High. The students are billeted out to a Japanese family so they can experience what Japanese life is really like and attend school for 2-3 days. The alternate year Sawara Junior High students visit Glen Eden Intermediate School.

China: Hengshui High School of Hebei Province In 2018 Glen Eden Intermediate entered into a Sister School Agreement with Hengshui High School of Hebei Province, China. Hengshui High School is a prestigious high school that has the highest number of students gaining admission to the highest ranked universities in Mainland China. As sister schools we have agreed to work together to explore educational exchanges by sharing best educational practices and investigate opportunities for international cooperation in culture and art. In July 2018, 14 GEIS students and staff visited Hengshui High School and participated in the 6th International Culture, Education and Arts Festival.
