Return to School November 17th

Uniform and Uniform Shop Students are permitted to wear either full school uniform or PE gear to school. We understand that a number of students have had a growth spurt over lockdown, so hopefully this more flexible approach to uniform will help. Our school uniform shop is currently closed while we work with NZ Uniforms to provide a contactless service. On-line orders are available so please refer to our school website for details: https://geis.school.nz/information/uniform

What do students need to bring? As face masks must be worn when inside and on school bus transport, all students must bring a mask to school each day.
Classes will be spending an increased amount of time outside, so students need to have a plain black hat to wear at school each day.
Students are also encouraged to bring their own sunblock to apply during the day. The tuck shop will not be reopening this year, therefore students will need to bring their morning tea and lunch along with a drink bottle. All water fountains will be working as usual. And, of course, their device

School Buses

To keep it straight forward, masks are required to be worn by all GEIS students travelling on school buses. Students without a mask will not be able to travel on school buses. School buses will run on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Due to low numbers, there will be no school buses running on a Wednesday. In the afternoon, the Henderson/Oratia bus will run its morning route back to Henderson instead of two separate routes.

Community On-site Our aim for the next four weeks is to keep our school bubbles as protected as possible. Therefore, the following measures will be in place. No non-essential visitors onsite Please pick up and drop off students outside our school gates No drop offs before 8.15 in the morning If parents/caregivers do need to come onsite they must wear a face mask, come directly to the office, scan the QR Code or sign in on the register and maintain a two-metre physical distance from others

End of School Year Please note the following dates for the end of this school year: Last day for Year 8 students is Tuesday, 14 December Last day for Year 7 students is Wednesday, 15 December

GEIS Return to School Term 4 2021

Kia ora koutou, I hope this email finds you and your whanau safe and well.

No doubt you are aware that the Government has announced that students from Auckland schools can return part-time to schools from Wednesday, 17 November. We know that lockdowns are stressful for students and whanau and the opportunity to return to some on-site learning that allows them to reconnect with their teachers and friends will no doubt help with their social and emotional wellbeing.

Experts have determined that the risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools is low because of the health measures that will be in place. At GEIS these include: A limited number of students and staff on-site each day Keeping those on site in separate groups and areas All staff and students wearing face masks when inside Well ventilated classrooms Practising physical distancing where possible Continuing to use basic hygiene measures including good hand hygiene, cough and sneeze etiquette, avoid touching your face and regularly cleaning surfaces. All staff on-site fully vaccinated

In order to mitigate the health and safety risks on-site, we have decided to open on a part-time basis for students with Year 7 and 8 students in each class attending on different days. For our first week, the Year 8’s in each class will be able to attend on Wednesday, 17 November and the Year 7’s in each class on the Thursday and Friday. For the following three weeks, Year 8’s will attend Mondays and Tuesdays and the Year 7’s Thursdays and Fridays. On Wednesdays teachers will be continuing with distance learning programmes, planning and assessment. We understand that families will need to consider a number of factors when deciding whether to send their children back to school. It is therefore also important to note the following: Distance learning will continue for those students learning from home If needed, Bubble school will continue for those students whose parents/whanau have returned to work and there will be no adult at home to supervise.

In order to complete our planning and finalise our organisation we need some information from all our school families/whanau. Can you please click on the link below and complete the ‘GEIS Return to School’ form as soon as possible. Once we have all this information we will be in contact again with more details.
