GEIS Start of School 2023

Kia ora GEIS families and Whanau,

Here is some information regarding the start of school:

Tuesday 7th February is the Year 7 first day

All Year 7’s are to meet in the bottom school car park and line up behind their primary school signs in full school uniform by 8.30am. Year 7’s will have a formal powhiri in the school gymnasium to welcome them onto the school/kura. Families and whanau are welcome to attend. Teachers will then call out class lists and then take their classes to start school. There will be no parking available in school so please park in the adjacent streets and walk in. All back gates will be open.

Wednesday 8th February is the Year 8 first day

Year 8 students are to go straight to their classes for an 8.45am start to the day.

School Stationery

Students will be given a basic stationery pack containing pencils, pens, ruler, eraser, glue stick and workbooks Teachers may ask the students to bring additional stationary from home. Basic stationery is available for purchase from the school uniform shop. Students will also need their device (Chromebook) on the first day if they have one.

School Buses

School Buses will be running from Tuesday 7 of February. See the school website for further information

School Uniform

School hats will be compulsory from week 2 of school at lunchtimes and when classes are outside for long periods. Students who do not have a school hat will be asked to sit by the pool at lunchtimes in the shade. The school uniform shop sells the plain black bucket hat and plain black caps. Students are to come to school in full school uniform but can go home in their P.E. gear. Students will need their P.E. gear at school every day.

School Swimming Pool

The school pool will be used by classes for the first half of the term for swimming lessons. Students will need their togs and a towel at school on their P.E days. The school pool will also be open at lunchtimes for students to have a swim. Each mini school will be allocated a day.

Students are allowed to bring a phone to school however all phones are locked up in the class safe for the entire school day and given back to students at the end of the day. Students have no access to phones during the day. If families need to contact their children then please contact the school office.

Student medications

If any student is taking medication these medicines need to be dropped off at our Health Centre clearly labeled with the students name, room number and dosage. Students are then administered with the medication at the Health Centre.

Drop offs and Pick ups

Can we please ask all families to drop off and pick up students at the front or back gates. Please avoid driving into school to drop off and pick up students as this is a safety risk to our students.

All senior leaders are available to discuss any concerns you may have :)
